Master The Art Of VRay 2.0 Lighting With These 6 Tips

This is a good way to start off because your render will work much faster without Vray having to calculate all the lighting and how it would work with the materials. To exclude a glass material from your material override, you can adjust that using the material settings in your Vray Asset Editor window. You can find these within your Vray Asset Editor window, under the settings tab.

This becomes especially important when dealing with artificial interior lights, otherwise your lighting calculations start becoming unrealistic. In Vray, the camera acts a lot like a camera would in real life — the shutter speed or exposure value is going to affect how bright your image is.

The lower the value, the brighter the image will be. You can either just adjust the exposure value, or there are more advanced settings if you click on the advanced settings button.

Note that this makes your image noticeably brighter. See how this reduces the blown out areas in our image? Our shadows are also looking a bit too straight — very unrealistic.

Now, however, our image is dimmer again. What we want to do is create an artificial light that will push more light through our window. A rectangle light is a light in Vray that casts light. You can add a rectangle light using the lights toolbar within Vray.

Simply place it outside your window — in this case, we can scale it so that it covers both windows. This means that the light will be cast without the actual geometry being rendered.

I was also trying to create something very realso my second mission was to search for references for the lighting. I spent days looking for everything— day, night, sunset, rain, etc.

I had loved the reference so I took up the challenge of creating an image of The Sweetest Bakery. Next, I tried to create shadows that would give the image that special touch. After modeling the scene, I started to add different types of trees Model 41 of Vol. I moved and scaled the trees in many ways until I found the perfect shadows:. I loved the shadows but I felt that I needed to improve them.

I wanted certain areas not to be overexposed and the shadows to be more diffused. I also wanted the environment to be slightly more bluish so I modified the Vray Sun parameters. I also wanted the environment to be more bluish, so I modified the filter color.

Lastly, I reduced the HighLight Burn to get a softer picture, avoiding blown out areas. I wanted it to be very cozy but I also wanted to achieve very realistic interior lighting, so I looked for references to make the lighting as real as possible. I took great care of the mapping so that everything was in perfect proportion and the colors were well combined. This has been one of my favorite personal projects. The exterior lighting was very simple and finding references suited to my project helped me a lot and guided me in the process.

I moved and scaled the trees in many ways until I found the perfect shadows: I loved the shadows but I felt that I needed to improve them.
